“Wadhurst Manor is operated by two companies: Barchester Healthcare Homes LimitedandScarborough Hall Limited. These two companies have a dual registration and are jointly responsible for the services at the home.”

“We undertook this comprehensive inspection due to the age of the rating. Wadhurst Manor was last inspected in February 2019 and rated Good. At this inspection the rating has remained Good.”

“People and staff told us they would feel confident to raise any concerns and that these would be responded to by the management team. The provider had liaised with external health professionals to provide joined up care and treatment for people. This had promoted safe transitions for people moving between different services. People received safe care and staff managed risks safely, responsively and effectively. Staff and management knew people well and received an induction, training and support that enabled them to manage people’s health and social care effectively and in a responsive way. Staff were recruited safely. The home was clean and well maintained and provided a comfortable and safe environment.”

“People enjoyed their meals and were supported by staff to follow a healthy lifestyle. Staff treated people with kindness and compassion, and there was a positive and friendly culture in the service. People were encouraged to remain as independent as possible and there was a dedicated activity team that worked alongside the care team to promote mental and physical well-being.”

“Care plans and risk assessments were person centred. Documentation was reviewed regularly. This ensured staff had access to relevant information about people and their care needs. People received end of life care because staff were knowledgeable, fully trained and caring and had ensured that families were kept fully informed and involved. Systems were in place that allowed people, relatives and staff to speak up and have their voices heard.”

“There was a positive culture of transparency, learning, improvement, and innovation embedded within the service. Staff spoke positively about their working environment, and partners consistently described strong, collaborative working relationships with the management and staff team.”

“The provider had governance systems in place that identified and acted on areas requiring improvement. Staff felt the management team were open and approachable, and there were regular opportunities for staff and management to discuss incidents or areas for improvement within the service to ensure lessons were learnt.”
