“Sunbury Nursing Homes is a care home providing accommodation and nursing care for up to 57 older people, some of whom live with dementia. This assessment took place on 4 August 2026 and at the time of the assessment, 52 people were living at the service.”

“People received person-centred care from staff who understand their individual needs and preferences. Care was planned and delivered in line with current best practice. Staff monitored people’s needs and responded promptly when these changed. However, some care plans lacked sufficient detail about escalation protocols and risks associated with specific medicines, which may limit staff's ability to respond consistently to changes in people's needs.”

“Medicines were generally managed safely. However, thickening agents were stored in people's bedrooms without appropriate risk assessments, which increased the risk of unsafe use or inconsistent management. In other areas, risk assessments and care plans provided staff with guidance on how to minimise risks. Staff were able to adapt their support to ensure people received consistent care.”

“Staff and leaders worked with a range of healthcare professionals to promote positive outcomes for people. Referrals were made when concerns were identified. We found positive examples of partnership working in areas such as wound care and ongoing support for people with complex health conditions. Leaders ensured people received appropriate interventions and specialist support when required.”

“Systems were in place to manage safety, including incident reporting, safeguarding processes and infection prevention and control. The environment was well maintained, and appropriate checks were completed to ensure equipment and premises were safe.”

“The service was led by an approachable and visible management team, who maintained oversight of people’s care. Staff spoke positively about leaders, which contributed to a caring and supportive culture. Staff knew people well and used their knowledge of people’s preferences and routines to provide compassionate and person-centred care. They developed positive relationships with people using the service.”
