“Milverton Nursing Home provides nursing and personal care for older people, including people living with dementia and physical disabilities. At the time of our visit there were 26 people using the service. We undertook a comprehensive assessment covering all quality statements under the 5 key questions.”

“ ”

“Since the last assessment in June 2025, there have been significant changes to the management team and staffing structure, with leaders implementing a clear improvement plan and strengthened governance systems to drive improvement.”

“ ”

“The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment, and good governance. Improvements were found at this assessment, and the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations.”

“ ”

“People and relatives felt safe and described a calm, relaxed environment. One person told us, “It’s relaxing for me here… I feel safe,” and others said staff responded promptly to call bells. Staff were visible, polite and respectful, and we observed kind interactions and a homely atmosphere throughout the home. People were supported to maintain their dignity, with staff knocking before entering rooms and engaging positively. Care records had improved significantly, with detailed information to guide staff in meeting people’s individual needs, and staff demonstrated good awareness of people’s preferences and communication needs.”

“ ”

“There were effective systems to access healthcare professionals, and staff worked to ensure people’s health and hydration needs were met. People were supported to maintain independence and make choices where possible, and activities provision had improved, with dedicated coordination and positive feedback about engagement. The environment was clean, well maintained and personalised, contributing to people’s comfort.”

“ ”

“Improvements had been made to staffing structures, communication and team working. Staff told us there had been positive changes and a clearer vision for the service. Medicines systems had improved and additional action was taken immediately after our site visit to address some stock balance discrepancies identified and strengthen oversight. Staff were up to date with their training, including training considered mandatory by the provider, but at the time of our assessment this did not include training to care for people with a learning disability and autistic people. The registered manager arranged for this to be completed shortly after our site visit. The registered manager also had a meeting booked with the training provider to improve managerial oversight of training compliance.”

“ ”

“Leaders promoted an open and improving culture, with enhanced quality assurance processes, regular audits and a focus on continuous learning. People, relatives and staff were positive about the changes introduced and the direction of the service.”
