“This assessment took place between 10 March and 20 March 2026. Hazel Homes for Autism is a care home providing personal care to people with a learning disability and/or autistic people. At the time of our assessment there were 4 people using the service.”

“We assessed the service against ‘right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.”

“People were protected and kept safe. On the whole, risks to people were managed effectively. However, improvements were needed in management oversight of gas safety inspections at the service. Plans were already in place to address this.”

“Staff received appropriate training and support to develop in their roles and deliver effective care. There were enough staff to meet people’s needs, and they worked well with each and others involved in people’s care. Recruitment processes were robust, ensuring only suitable staff were employed. Infection risks were well managed.”

“People were involved in assessing their needs and received person-centred care, which was reviewed with them to ensure it remained appropriate. Staff supported people to stay healthy and well. People received their medicines when they needed them. Staff supported people to understand their care so they could give informed consent.”

“People were supported to have choice and control over their care and support and to maintain their independence. Information was provided in ways that reflected people’s needs and preferences. People were treated fairly and supported to access care and services when needed. Staff understood people’s rights and how to uphold them.”

“The service was led by managers who understood people’s needs and promoted an open culture where concerns could be raised and addressed. Staff were supported with their wellbeing. Governance systems helped identify shortfalls and drive improvement at the service. Managers fostered a culture of learning, inclusion and partnership working focused on achieving positive outcomes for people.”
