“During our assessment we identified 3 breaches of regulation in relation to the infection prevention, control and cleanliness, person-centred care and good governance. Areas of the home were not cleaned to a hygienic and safe standard, and malodours were present in some areas. The delivery of activities and support for people to occupy their time doing things they enjoyed was not closely monitored and staff had not received sufficient training in this area. Governance systems had not fully assessed people’s experiences in relation to these concerns and audits had not identified these shortfalls. In other areas we found audits were effective in identifying concerns and action taken to make improvements required.”
“Two people living at Wolfe House had a learning disability. We therefore assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choice, independence, and good access to local communities which most people take for granted. The service ensured staff received training in supporting people with a learning disability, although the needs of the individuals as older people were understood and met by staff.”
“People, along with their relatives, were involved in initial assessments, care planning and making decisions regarding their day-to-day care and support. Accidents and incidents were reviewed and acted upon to help ensure they did not happen again. Staff received training in medicines administration and people received their medicines in line with their prescriptions. Staff understood their responsibilities to keep people safe from harm and abuse and safeguarding concerns were reported and reviewed to minimise risks.”
“Staff were recruited safely and received an induction, on-going training and regular supervision to support them in their roles. Staff were kind and considerate during individual interactions with people.”
“The registered manager demonstrated commitment to developing the service and had an open and transparent approach. Following our assessment, they forwarded an action plan to highlight how they intended to address the shortfalls identified through our assessment.”
