“Our view of the service”

“About the service”

Show the full assessment summaryHide the rest of the summary

“Wilton Lodge is a care home providing personal care. The service is based over 2 floors and has various communal areas and a large accessible garden.”

“Who the service is for”

“Wilton Lodge provides support to older adults, and people living with dementia. At the time of the inspection, 47 people were being supported with a regulated activity.”

“Our view of the service”

“We carried out this assessment on 30 June 2026 1 July 2026. The service was previously rated as good. We conducted this assessment to confirm whether the rating of good remains accurate. This report does not provide detailed information on areas where we found practice continues to meet a good standard. Instead, our findings focus on any areas where the service needs to improve or where we found exceptional practice.”

“People were supported by enough staff with the skills and knowledge to support them safely. Risks were assessed, and systems were in place to keep people safe from abuse. Staff understood their safeguarding responsibilities. Medicines were given safely, and improvements were made to the ‘as and when’ medication process during this assessment. There were systems in place to ensure the environment was safe.”

“People can only be deprived of their liberty to receive care and treatment with appropriate legal authority. In care homes, this is through the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), which is part of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA). We checked whether the service was working within the principles of the MCA and how they managed DoLS within the service. We found that staff and management worked within the MCA. DoLS authorisations were applied for correctly and monitored appropriately. People were not subject to unlawful or excessive restrictions, and they had choice, control, and freedom over their lives.”

“Care plans were in place and covered key areas of people’s needs and risks. This included areas such as mobility guidance, nutritional support, pressure area care, and emotional support.”

“People were supported by caring and compassionate staff who promoted choices in a way people understood. Staff spoke to and about people with warmth, acknowledged their individuality and respected their dignity. Staff promoted people’s independence to ensure people lived the life they wanted.”

“The service demonstrated a culture of person-centred care, where staff understood people as individuals and adapted support to meet their needs, preferences and lived experiences. Care was delivered in a way that promoted people’s independence, dignity, and emotional wellbeing, with evidence of positive outcomes. People’s health and wellbeing were monitored, with appropriate escalation to professionals when concerns were identified.”

“The registered manager and their team fostered an open culture where everyone’s thoughts and feelings were considered. The management team were supportive and approachable, and promoted a collaborative approach to continually learning and improving the service. One staff member said “It is great that people have confidence in me. There is definitely lots of support in place.” Another staff member said “The management are lovely. They are approachable.””
