“Date of Assessment: 6, 13 and 15 October 2025. West Ridings Care Home is a care home that can accommodate up to 180 people who require support with nursing or personal care needs, mental health conditions and physical disabilities, some of whom were living with dementia. At the time of our assessment there were 75 people using the service. The service had 6 separate units, and care was provided in 3 of those units.”
“The provider was previously in breach of legal regulations related to person centred care, safe care and treatment, staffing and good governance. At this assessment we continued to find those regulations were being breached.”

“This assessment was prompted by continued concerns which we had received about the service in relation to safeguarding incidents, clinical risks, people’s care not being well managed and management of the service.”
“We continued to find serious issues with the lack of effective management and oversight at the service. There was a new management team in place and some of the issues identified at the previous assessment, where enforcement action had been taken, continued to be observed at this assessment.”
“People did not always receive safe care. Risks to people's care were not always managed well or had not been properly identified and acted upon. People's medication was not always managed safely.”
“The provider did not always ensure people received person-centred care and treatment. Some people's care plans were inaccurate, lacked information about people's needs or were not being followed. There were activities happening at the service, but the provision wasn't always consistent or dementia friendly.”
“Quality assurance processes had not always been effective in identifying the issues found at this assessment and in driving improvements.”
“This service remains in special measures. The purpose of special measures is to ensure that services providing inadequate care make significant improvements. Special measures provide a framework within which we use our enforcement powers in response to inadequate care and provide a timeframe within which providers must improve the quality of the care they provide.”
“In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/ or appeals have been concluded.”
