“Date of assessment: 18 March 2026 to 2 April 2026. We visited the service on 18, 19, 25 and 26 March 2026. Wentworth Court Care Home is registered to provide accommodation, nursing and personal care to up to 65 older people and people living with a diagnosis of dementia. At the time of our inspection there were 62 people receiving support at the service. There was a registered manager in post at the time of the inspection.”

“The provider did not always have a proactive and positive culture of safety as, at the time of the assessment, there was not an effective system in place to evidence themes had been analysed and lessons had been learnt to continually identify and embed good practice.”

“Some care plans lacked key information regarding the management of risk, and we did not always see a clear record to demonstrate how staff had responded in accordance with best practice, when people had been physically aggressive and experienced behaviours of distress.”

“The provider did not always make sure that medicines and treatments were safe and met people’s needs, capacities and preferences. There were systems and processes in place to administer medicines safely however, staff were not always following them and therefore they were not always effective in ensuring safe management of medicines.”

“Whilst leaders had some knowledge and understanding of the issues and priorities within the service, oversight and governance of the service had not been effective. Governance systems were not always effective in identifying and addressing risks, and the systems had failed to identify the concerns we found during this inspection.”

“Care was based on latest evidence and good practice. People had enough to eat and drink to stay healthy. Staff worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes and smooth transitions when moving services. Staff made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent.”

“People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity. They treated them as individuals and supported their preferences. People had choice in their care and were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends. Staff responded to people in a timely way. The provider supported staff well-being.”

“People were involved in decisions about their care. The service was easy to access and worked to eliminate discrimination. People received fair and equal care and treatment. Staff worked to reduce health and care inequalities through training and feedback. Managers worked with the local community to deliver the best possible care and were receptive to new ideas.”

“This inspection found the provider to be in breach of legal regulations relating to safe care and treatment and good governance. In instances where CQC has begun a process of regulatory action, we may publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded, if the action has been taken forward.”

“The provider was responsive to all issues raised during this assessment, and the leadership team put immediate measures in place to make improvements where they agreed there were shortfalls.”
