The inspection record

Good
Report published 7 May 2025
“Date of assessment: 25 March to 4 April 2025. The service is a nursing home providing support to mostly older people, some who were living with dementia. People were protected and kept safe. Staff understood and managed risks. However, guidance was not always included in care plans on how to support people when they were distressed. It was not always clear in records why medicines used to help people with anxiety or distress had been given and what actions had been taken first to help reduce their distress. Monitoring records were not always completed when people had ‘as required’ (PRN) medicines to help with bowel movements. People were supported to self-administer their medicines where possible. The facilities and equipment met people’s needs and were clean. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Managers made sure staff received training and regular supervision. However, legally required training on learning disabilities and autism awareness had not been completed by all staff. The service had strong links with the community which had improved and enriched people’s quality of life. People were involved with developing and improving the service; the management team listened to people’s feedback and implemented changes when required. The service offered meaningful activities which focused on social interaction and stimulating people’s physical and mental wellbeing. There were clear governance processes in place and the registered manager had good oversight of the service. The service had a shared vision and culture based on listening, learning and trust. Managers were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. Staff felt supported to give feedback and were treated equally, free from bullying or harassment. There was a positive culture of staff feeling able to ‘speak up’ if required.”
