“About the service”

“ ”

Show the full assessment summaryHide the rest of the summary

“Nightingale Nursing Home is a care home registered to provide nursing care for up to 35 people. There were 14 people using the service at the time of the assessment.”

“ ”

“Who the service is for”

“ ”

“This service provides nursing care and accommodation for older people, including end of life care and people living with dementia and / or a physical disability. The service is also registered to provide care to younger adults, however only care to older people was being provided at the time of the assessment.”

“ ”

“Key Findings”

“ ”

“We carried out this assessment on 23 September 2026. This service was previously rated as good. We carried out this assessment to confirm whether the rating of good remains accurate. This report does not provide detailed information on areas where we found practice continues to meet a good standard. Instead, our findings focus on any areas where the service needs to improve or where we found exceptional practice.”

“ ”

“At the time of this assessment the service was without a registered manager. The service was being managed by a newly appointed manager who was in the process of becoming registered with the Commission.”

“ ”

“People can only be deprived of their liberty to receive care and treatment with appropriate legal authority. In care homes, this can be done through a procedure called the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), which is part of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA). We checked whether the service was working within the principles of the MCA and how they managed DoLS within the service. We found that staff and management worked within the MCA. DoLS authorisations were appropriately applied for and overseen. People were not subject to unlawful or excessive restrictions they had choice, control and freedom over their lives.”

“ ”

“Risks to people were assessed and care was provided safely. People were supported by enough staff who had the skills and knowledge to support them safely. Staff received regular training, supervision and competency assessments and recruitment processes were operated safely. The service had an established staff team, many of whom had worked at Nightingale Nursing Home for several years. They told us they enjoyed their work. Staff described the team as a family and feedback included, “We [staff] help each other. We’re all here for the same reason. There is no division between day and night staff.” Medicines were administered safely and there were systems in place to ensure the environment was safe.”

“ ”

“People’s care needs were assessed and their care records generally reflected their assessed needs and demonstrated involvement from healthcare professionals. The care records were person-centred and detailed. Care records and risk assessments were reviewed and up to date. People’s records were stored securely and were available to staff. The manager and provider were reviewing the current paper care records with a view to upgrading to a digital system. Accidents and incidents were managed appropriately and analysed by management for patterns and trends. The manager told us how a digital recording system would improve management oversight and the use of handheld devices would assist staff access to records.”

“ ”

“Staff understood the importance of seeking consent and respected people’s right to choose. They gave examples of how people had agency over their lives and were able to make choices. They spoke about how people were able to choose what clothing they wore.”

“ ”

“Staff treated people with kindness and compassion, and we saw this during our visit. Staff were friendly and appeared happy in their work. Feedback from staff included, “It’s a peaceful and healthy environment.””

“ ”

“There was evidence of a positive and inclusive culture. Staff praised the teamwork andspoke fondly of…”
