“Date of inspection- 21 and 22 April 2026. Golden Horizon Care Home is a residential care home which is registered to care for up to 21 people. At the time of our visits 17 people were living at the service. The service provides support to older people and people living with dementia. It also provides support for people with physical disabilities and sensory impairments. This was the first inspection since the service was newly registered on 4 February 2025. A new home manager had recently been appointed who was in the process of registering with CQC. During the inspection we assessed all quality statements under the key questions of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.”

“We identified some concerns in relation to the environment and fire safety. Staff did not have the required training to ensure people were safely evacuated from the building in the event of a fire. We found some areas of the service had flooring which posed a risk of trips and falls for people and 2 windows did not have the appropriate restrictions in place to keep people safe. The provider took prompt action to address these concerns during the inspection process.”

“People’s needs were assessed prior to admission to the service, and care plans were reviewed regularly. However, some care plans contained contradicting information. When we spent time talking with staff, they knew people’s needs well. Feedback from people, their relatives and our observations confirmed this”

“Staff were recruited safely into the service, and the appropriate checks were carried out to ensure staff were of good character before they commenced employment. People were supported to maintain their independence and staff ensured their dignity was maintained. People received their medicines as prescribed, and systems were in place to manage the safe supply and disposal of medicines.”

“Where appropriate, people were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. Accidents and incidents were recorded, investigated and shared with the staff team, and actions were taken to learn from these to reduce the risk of reoccurrence.”

“People were offered meaningful activities to engage in and were involved in improvements and changes within the service. Staff told us they were supported by the providers and the home manager and were encouraged to share ideas and improvements.”

“There were systems and processes in place to monitor the quality of care provided, however, some of these required further improvements to ensure the service identified concerns in order to continually drive improvements.”
