“During this inspection we spoke with people who lived at the service, their relatives, staff, the registered manager, a regional manager and a director of quality and compliance. We also sought feedback from other healthcare professionals.”

“People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated people as individuals and supported their personal preferences. People had choice in their care and were encouraged to maintain important relationships with family and friends. Staff responded to people in a timely way.”

“The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff. They had inclusive leaders at all levels who understood the context in which they delivered care, treatment and support. The provider had a strong focus on continuous learning, innovation and improvement. They took learning from other provider homes, shared good practice and put people at the heart of everything they did. There was a culture of continuous improvement with staff given time and resources to try new ideas.”

“Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. Staff felt supported to give feedback and were treated equally, free from bullying or harassment. Staff described themselves as a ‘Fairfield family’ a term they used to describe how they worked together with one another and those living at the home. People with protected characteristics told us they felt supported. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. Managers worked with the local community to deliver the best possible care and were receptive to new ideas.”

“The provider had an effective quality assurance programme that they used to help them maintain good standards of care people expected. Some improvements with the checking of medicines administration and care plan accuracy was needed and the provider assured us this would be done.”
