“We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.”

“We undertook this inspection to check the provider had improved and followed the action plan we required them to complete after we had found they were in breach of regulations at their last inspection.”

“This inspection was conducted by a single adult social care inspector and was unannounced. We reviewed 21 quality statements in relation to the 3 key questions, Is the service safe, effective, and well-led? For all the other key questions which were not reviewed as part of this inspection we used the ratings awarded at their last inspection to calculate the overall rating.”

“The service was rated requires improvement at their last inspection [published 25 October 2022]. Based on the findings of this inspection the services overall rating has now changed from requires improvement to good. This is because the service has improved how they now managed safeguarding incidents, risk, staff training, infection prevention and control and their governance systems.”

“The service had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. Managers investigated incidents thoroughly. Staff understood and managed risks well. The facilities and equipment used in the care home met people’s needs, was kept clean and were well-maintained. There were enough staff with the right skills, knowledge, and experience. Staff received regular and relevant training and supervision. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. Staff managed medicines well and involved people in reviewing any changes.”

“People engaged in assessments of their needs. Staff reviewed assessments taking account of people’s communication, personal and health care needs. Care was based on latest evidence and good practice. Staff monitored people’s health to support healthy living and make sure people always had enough to eat and drink. Staff made sure people understood the care and support they received to enable them to give informed consent. Staff involved those important to people, took decisions in people’s best interests where they did not have mental capacity.”

“Managers and staff had a shared vision and culture within the care home based on listening, learning, and trust. The registered manager was knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. They treated staff fairly and respected their wellbeing. Staff felt supported to give their feedback. Managers collaborated with the local community to deliver the best possible care and were receptive to innovative ideas. There was a culture of continuous improvement with staff given time and resources to try innovative ideas.”
