The inspection record

Rated Good overall. Report published 2 September 2026.

“We carried out an unannounced assessment of Glen Pat Homes on 4 August 2026, which included out-of-hours activity. The service provides personal care to people living in supported living settings, including people with a learning disability. At the time of our assessment, 1 person was receiving personal care.”

“Glen Pat Homes operates both a care home and a supported living service under the same provider registration. This assessment relates to the supported living service only. The provider’s most recent published CQC inspection report, dated 6 January 2022, covered both services and resulted in an overall rating of requires improvement, with a breach of Regulation 18 (staffing). Improvements were found at this assessment, and the provider was no longer in breach of this regulation. This assessment was undertaken due to the length of time since the previous rating. Following this assessment, the service is rated good.”

“We assessed the service against the principles of ‘Right support, right care, right culture’. The provider had systems in place to support people’s independence, choice and control and to ensure care reflected their individual needs and communication preferences.”

“Staff received training relevant to their roles and the needs of the person they supported. Most people supported across the provider’s services were deaf, and staff had been supported to develop their British Sign Language skills. The registered manager had also developed their sign language skills, and the provider had recruited a deaf member of staff. This helped staff communicate effectively and understand people’s individual ways of expressing their needs, choices and preferences.”

“The provider had policies and procedures in place to guide staff practice, including safeguarding, medicines management and infection prevention and control. Staff understood their responsibilities and had opportunities for ongoing learning and development. Systems were also in place to review care, share information and work with relatives and external professionals when people’s needs changed.”

“We identified an area where recruitment processes needed to be strengthened. Some staff records contained unexplained gaps in employment history which had not been clearly explored or recorded. We discussed this with the registered manager, who acknowledged the finding and took action to review the relevant recruitment records.”
