“This is a specialist service for people who have a learning disability or autistic people. At the time of our inspection 6 people were living at the service. We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.”

“The Paddocks is a service that continues to be owned and operated by Mr Gibbs who is both the provider of the service and also the registered manager. The service was a family home and is at times reflected as such in this report. The people using the service are either the adopted siblings of the provider or they were looked after as children and have grown up with Mr Gibbs at the service since they were children when it was run by their parents. The registered manager is referred to as the provider throughout our report.”

“During this inspection we signposted the provider to update their knowledge of the CQC guidance, Right Support, Right Care, Right Culture’. We encourage providers to develop services for people that comply with national policy and current recommended best practice,”

“There were enough staff with the right skills and experience to make sure people received safe and effective care.”

“People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity. Everyone was treated as an individual and staff respected each person’s individual choices. A staff member told us, “This is an extremely kind and loving family. They love and support each other. Everyone knows how to express their thoughts and mood and it's just wonderful to watch it. I really like that everyone in the family treats each other with respect.””

“People had opportunities to take part in activities of their choosing and staff supported people to maintain and develop their independence.”

“The provider was open and approachable. They led by example to make sure the care and support provided was inclusive. Staff felt supported and all said they would be able to speak up about any concerns.”
