“The assessment took place due to concerns raised regarding people’s safety and the management of the service. We found the provider had put measures in place to address the concerns, implemented systems to minimise risks going forward and provided support to the staff team. We received positive feedback from people, relatives and staff regarding improvements and how people’s care was provided. During our assessment we found some areas which required on-going improvement in relation to how records were maintained. The provider assured us they had already identified these concerns and provided evidence of how they were addressing the issues.”

“There was no registered manager in place at the time of our assessment. A manager had been in post for several months prior to our assessment although had left their position before their registration with CQC had been completed. The regional director had previously held the position of registered manager at Redcot and had returned to provide additional managerial support alongside the regional dementia care director. On the day of our assessment, interviews for an interim manager had been planned and recruitment for a permanent manager had started.”

“Risks to people’s safety were known to staff and managed well, with systems in place to monitor their well-being. Accidents and incidents were reviewed and acted upon to minimise the risk of them happening again. Staff demonstrated understanding of their safeguarding responsibilities and concerns were reported to relevant agencies. People lived in a safe environment which was well maintained. Staff were on the whole recruited safely and received an induction, supervision and training to support them in their roles.”

“People’s needs were assessed prior to them moving to Redcot. Regular reviews were completed, and reassessments took place following any hospital stays or significant changes. Staff gained people’s consent prior to supporting them and ensured people’s care was provided in line with their wishes. Positive relationships had been developed with health and social care professionals, and best practice guidance was followed when monitoring people’s health.”

“The provider had established quality assurance systems to monitor the service people received. This included completing internal audits, commissioning external audits, monitoring complaints and gathering the opinions of people, relatives and staff through meetings and surveys. The senior leadership team acknowledged concerns had not always been acted upon promptly leading to a dip in the standard of care and support. They had reviewed the reasons for this, made adjustments to processes and implemented additional ways for people relatives and staff to raise concerns. Following these actions, they were confident any concerns would be identified and addressed in a timely way going forward.”
