“Date of inspection: 10 11 March 2026. Pencombe Hall is a residential home providing accommodation for people who require nursing or personal care for up to 32 people. At the time of our visit 23 people were using the service. The service provides support to older people and people living with dementia. It also provides support to people with physical disabilities and mental health support needs. At our last inspection the service was in breach of 2 legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment and good governance. At this inspection enough improvements had been made, and they were no longer in breach of legal regulation. During the inspection we assessed all quality statements under the key questions of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led. People received their medicines as prescribed, and systems were in place to manage the safe supply and disposal of medicines. However, further improvements were required by maintaining consistent open dates on medicines and regularly documenting the reason for administering ‘as and when required’ to identify any themes or trends in the administration process. People’s needs were assessed, and care plans were reviewed regularly. Accidents and incidents were investigated, and actions were taken to learn from these to reduce the risk of reoccurrence. People were supported by kind, caring staff who had received the appropriate training and understood how to keep them safe and protect them from avoidable harm. We saw positive and meaningful interactions with people, where different methods of communication were utilised to ensure people’s communication needs were met. People were supported to maintain their independence and staff ensured their dignity was maintained. Where appropriate, people were given maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. The service had strong links with the local and wider community and held events at the service to encourage community integration. People were offered meaningful activities to engage in and were involved in improvements and changes within the service. Staff told us they were well supported by leaders and the registered manager, and were encouraged to share ideas and improvements. There were effective systems and processes in place at all levels to monitor the quality of care provided and drive improvements.”
