“People were supported to be safe by leaders and staff who followed robust safeguarding policies and risk management plans to protect people from avoidable harm and abuse. Staff had been recruited properly and had received necessary training to support them in their roles. People’s medicines were safely managed by trained and competent staff. The home appeared clean and fresh, the registered manager had good oversight of infection prevention and control procedures.”

“People received effective care because care records were comprehensive and included information from a variety of sources. There was input from people, their relatives and health and social care professionals' guidance. Care staff worked well together to support people in line with their care plans. Clinical staff and leaders ensured care staff had printed and up to date information every day. People’s health needs were monitored and reviewed regularly. People were supported to consent to care and support by staff who took time to involve people.”

“People received kind and respectful support and treatment from care staff, nursing staff and leaders. The whole team demonstrated compassion and understanding when supporting people. People had been enabled to be more independent through positive risk taking which had included being able to go out alone in the local community. Staffing levels helped ensure people were responded to promptly when they need support. Staffs’ knowledge of people helped them to recognise changes in people’s presentation and raised any concerns promptly.”

“People received consistent person-centred care. Care staff understood people’s needs and preferences and respected their choices. People were given information in ways they found helpful and staff took time to understand people’s communication needs and methods. The provider and staff team demonstrated a commitment to supporting people overcome barriers to accessing resources and experiences. Due to construction in the main lounge area some activities had not been as available as usual, however we saw staff continuing to engage and involve people in exercise and singing. People had been supported to consider their future wishes and make plans. The provider ensured they fully explored people’s specific wishes and sought advice where needed.”

“There was a positive and compassionate culture in the home which valued people and their experiences. The provider, registered manager and leadership team led by example and had embedded this culture throughout the team. Both staff and relatives praised the management of the home. There was an open culture where people could speak up and be confident, they would be listened to. Leaders had a focus on improvement and ensured they had good oversight of all aspects of the service. Areas that needed to be addressed were seen to promptly which helped to avoid reoccurrence and achieve positive outcomes for people.”
