“Date of assessment: 21 June to 24 June 2026. We visited the service on 21 June 2026. Church View provides purpose-built accommodation and personal care with nursing to up to 78 people in 6 separate units, known as communities. The home provides a service to older people including people living with dementia. At the time of our inspection there were 74 people using the service. This was a comprehensive assessment because the service had been rated inadequate at the last inspection in March 2023 under a different provider. The current provider, Churchview Care Limited, were registered in June 2025. This was the first inspection under this provider.”

“People received their medicines safely and as prescribed, and staff received training in medicines management. However, minor shortfalls were identified during the inspection. The provider took prompt action to address these.”

“Although the home was developed to meet the needs of people living with dementia, there were no sensory or tactile objects for people to touch and explore, and few resting areas in corridors for people to sit when mobilising around the home. The provider said they would address this.”

“Although safety checks were regularly undertaken, cupboards in kitchen areas of dining rooms containing dishwasher tablets, rinse aid and washing up liquid were unlocked. Following feedback, the provider sourced a more effective locking system to ensure this would not happen again.”

“Processes to help ensure that risks to people were assessed and mitigated were effective. Staffing levels were adequate to meet people’s needs. The provider used a dependency tool to help ensure there were always enough staff to meet people’s changing needs.”

“There were good systems to protect people from the risk of infection and cross contamination and staff followed good practice. There were systems in place for the safe recruitment of staff. People were cared for by staff who were kind and caring and knew them well. The home was clean, fresh and well-maintained.”

“There was a range of activities available for people and these were person-centred. People and their relatives were involved in their pre-admission assessment, care planning and the management of individual risks. Staff received regular training and had their competencies checked. People’s end of life wishes had been considered and documented. Staff spoke favourably of the management team and felt listened to and consulted.”

“There was a good culture at the service. Staff and management put people’s needs at the centre of the care and support they provided. The provider was keen to learn and develop the home to benefit people and increase their wellbeing.”
