“Date of inspection: 7 April 2026 to 22 April 2026.”

“The service is a residential and nursing home providing support to older people and younger adults, some of whom were living with dementia, a physical disability, or had nursing needs. The service can provide care for up to 60 people. At the time of the inspection a total of 29 people were supported. The care home is an adapted building with purpose-built extensions and comprises of 3 floors. However, at the time of the inspection many of the first-floor bedrooms, and associated communal areas, were not in use. The service had been rated ‘Requires Improvement’ at their previous inspection (report published 15 December 2023). The provider had been in breach of the legal regulations in relation to the hygiene of premises and equipment, staff training, and risk management processes. We had issued the provider with a warning notice on 30 October 2023 which told the provider the improvements we expected them to make. This unannounced inspection was carried out by one inspector to check whether the required improvements had been made. Improvements were found, the warning notice had been complied with, and the provider was no longer in breach of regulations. The relationship between the care home team and an external community healthcare team was not always effective, but the manager was committed to developing more positive and effective links with those teams. The provider now had a good learning culture. New managers had recently been appointed at the service, and they investigated incidents thoroughly. People were protected and kept safe. Staff understood and managed risks. The care home facilities and equipment met people’s needs, were clean and well-maintained and any risks mitigated. Staff managed people’s prescribed medicines well and involved people in planning any changes where appropriate. Leaders and staff had a shared vision based on listening, learning and trust. Managers were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. There was now a culture of continuous improvement and of learning lessons from incidents to help reduce reoccurrences. People’s person-centred care plans and risk assessments took account of their individual communication needs as well as their personal care and health care needs. Staff monitored people’s health to encourage healthy living and made sure people always had enough to eat and drink. The manager treated staff fairly and respected their wellbeing. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience.”
