“Date of Inspection: 27 April to 14 May 2026. Bradbury House is a nursing home providing personal and nursing care for up to 25 people who have acquired brain injuries and long‑term neurological conditions. At the time of inspection, 23 people were using the service. We completed this inspection as part of our routine programme and because of the length of time since the last full inspection.”

“During this inspection we found a deeply embedded culture of kindness, safety, professionalism and continuous improvement, which was consistently modelled by leaders, embraced by staff and experienced by people using the service.”

“The service was well led. Leaders were visible, compassionate and inclusive, and promoted a shared vision focused on people’s wellbeing. Staff felt supported and listened to, and there was a clear commitment to learning and continuous improvement. Governance systems were in place and provided reasonable oversight of quality and risk. This had assisted the registered manager to identify staffing levels required strengthening. They were currently in the process of making a case for having an additional staff member on each shift and more nurses in post.”

“Bradbury House provided people with safe, compassionate and effective care in which they achieved generally positive outcomes. People consistently told us they felt safe and well cared for, and relatives spoke positively about staff knowledge, kindness and commitment. The management team had established a strong, values‑led culture that promoted dignity, inclusion and respect, and staff were motivated and proud of the care they provided.”

“People experienced exceptionally kind and compassionate care. Staff knew people well, treated them with dignity and respect, and built trusting relationships which supported people to feel valued and confident. Care was highly personalised, and staff followed strong human rights‑based practices. People were consistently supported to make choices, maintain their independence and reach their full potential. Relatives described staff as caring and dedicated. They expressed confidence in the quality of care provided.”

“People were listened to and actively involved in decisions about their care. People enjoyed a rich activities programme, which supported them to maintain relationships, interests and community connections. Staff worked sensitively with people and families on future planning, including end‑of‑life care.”

“Care and treatment were effective. Staff worked in line with evidence‑based guidance and collaborated well with healthcare professionals to meet people’s complex needs. This had led to significant improvements in people’s physical health, wellbeing and independence, including outcomes beyond those originally anticipated by clinicians. Staff supported people to live healthier lives through positive risk‑taking, meaningful activity and advocacy.”

“People were supported safely, and a strong learning culture was embedded across the service. Staff understood safeguarding processes and knew how to recognise and report concerns. Incidents and accidents were reviewed to identify learning, and lessons were shared to reduce the risk of recurrence. Medicines were managed safely, the environment was clean and well maintained.”
