“Date of assessment: 5 August to 1 September 2026. Ashton View Nursing Home located in Ashton in Makerfield and is registered to provide care to older people, younger adults and people living with dementia. The home can accommodate 58 people. At the time of assessment 49 people were living there.”

“People received safe care. Safeguarding concerns had been reported in line with guidance, with actions taken, outcomes and lessons learned clearly documented. Staff had been recruited safely and received ongoing training and supervision to ensure they could carry out their roles safely and effectively. Feedback received about staffing levels was mixed, although the provider’s system for determining how many staff were needed stated enough were deployed each day. Medicines were managed safely, with people receiving these as and when required. The home was clean with effective infection prevention and control processes in place.”

“Detailed assessments had been completed to ensure the home was suitable and could meet people’s needs. People’s nutritional and hydration needs had been met, with detailed records kept to record intake. Overall, the monitoring of care had been completed consistently, which included repositioning, regular wellbeing checks and completion of personal hygiene tasks. People’s consent to care was documented, and where people lacked capacity, decisions had been made in their best interest. People had access to a range of medical and health professionals, with information logged in care records.”

“Staff were described as caring and kind, with permanent staff members in particularly having a good understanding of people’s needs and preferences. Positive interactions between people and staff were observed during the assessment process. Activity completion was limited, due to the absence of an activity coordinator, and staff having limited time to facilitate these. A new coordinator had been recruited but had yet to commence employment. The provider had a number of processes in place to monitor and support staff wellbeing, including access to free counselling sessions.”

“Overall care records explained people’s needs and how to meet these, though some people’s care plans required updating as were out of date. People views had been sought through surveys and meetings, though attendance at these had been variable. Information was provided to people in ways they could understand. People were supported to plan for important life changes, so they could have enough time to make informed decisions about their future, including at the end of their life.”

“Systems and processes had been used effectively to assess the quality and safety of care and the home overall. Actions had been generated and completed as and when required. A new registered manager had commenced employment in June 2026, so was still relatively new to the home. Feedback about them was positive, with staff telling us they were approachable and had started to make some positive changes. The provider and home had been involved in a number of pilot schemes and projects which had resulted in positive outcomes for people, especially around falls and fall reduction.”
