“Date of assessment: 6 to 21 November 2025. 61 Kings Road Harrogate is a care home for autistic people and people with a learning disability. This inspection was prompted due to the length of time since our last inspection. Five people were living at the service at the time of our inspection. We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.”

“Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. Recruitment was robust, staff were supported by regular supervision, training and competency checks. Risks to people were identified and well managed. People received care and support that was person-centred. Care plans were very detailed, regularly reviewed, and reflected individual needs, preferences, routines, and aspirations. Staff responded promptly and proactively to changing needs, offering reassurance and adapting plans to prevent discomfort or distress. Relatives gave mixed feedback about staffing, with some wanting more cover at evenings and weekends, while others felt staffing was sufficient. People received their commissioned hours, including 1:1 support. Staffing was based on people’s needs and preferences, ensuring they had the support to do the things they wanted. Staff and managers demonstrated a strong commitment to delivering person-centred, evidence-based care.”

“The service was well-led with strong governance and a clear focus on continuous improvement. Leaders promoted an open, supportive culture and were visible and approachable. Quality assurance systems, including audits and action plans, were used effectively to monitor performance and drive improvements. Learning from incidents and complaints was shared, and engagement with families and external partners supported transparency. Staff well-being and recognition were prioritised, helping maintain morale.”

“The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulations in relation to good governance and safeguarding. Improvements were found at this assessment, and the provider was no longer in breach of this regulation.”
