“We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choice, independence, and access to local communities that most people take for granted. The provider was working in line with national best practice guidance for supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people. The registered manager and the staff team had embraced this guidance and supported people to ensure they were supported in accordance with their wishes.”
“People received care that was consistently safe and tailored to their individual needs. There were sufficient numbers of staff deployed to meet people’s needs, and risks were well managed in a way that promoted people’s independence without unnecessarily restricting their choices. People had additional support hours to enable them to access the community and take part in the activities they enjoyed. This was in response to people’s needs changing.”
“Safe recruitment processes were followed to help ensure only suitable staff were employed.”
“Staff completed a comprehensive induction when they joined the service and received regular training, supervision, and ongoing support. This helped ensure they had the skills and knowledge required to provide safe and effective care.”
“The home was homely and a redecoration programme was in place. Some areas such as the kitchen flooring and the bathroom would benefit from redecoration and replacement. This had not impacted the safety or wellbeing of people using the service.”
“People were involved in the planning of their care. Care plans were person-centred and detailed people’s preferences and what they could do for themselves. Staff understood people’s needs well and provided support in accordance with their preferences. Staff involved people in decisions about their care. There was strong partnership working with health and social care professionals to ensure people received the care and support they needed. Timely referrals were made and people’s care plans updated to reflect any changes in support. This ensured there was a consistent approach when people moved between services.”
“There was strong leadership within the service. The management and the staff team promoted a strong person-centred culture. Feedback from a relative and health and social care professionals told us the management of the service often went above and beyond to support people to lead the life they wanted. Governance systems were in place to monitor quality and drive improvement.”
