“We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. The provider was working in line with national best practice guidance for supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people. People were supported in accordance with their wishes and were supported to do the things they enjoyed.”

“People received care that was safe. This included ensuring there was safe staffing and minimising risks without restricting people doing what they wanted. People were protected by safe recruitment processes. Staff completed a comprehensive induction when they first started working for the service. Staff received regular and ongoing, training and supervision to enable them to support people safely. Staff felt supported in their roles. Bespoke training was provided where people’s needs had changed. Staff understood their role in safeguarding and protecting people from harm.”

“People were involved in the planning of their care. Care plans were person-centred and detailed people’s preferences and what they could do for themselves. Monthly goals were planned which took into account people’s aspirations. Staff understood people’s needs well and provided support in accordance with their preferences. Staff involved people in decisions about their care. Improvements were needed to ensure people’s daily records captured the support that was provided. The provider was working with all their services to make improvements in this area as it was a recognised shortfall of the new electronic care planning system which had recently been rolled out to all the provider’s services.”

“The management team and staff worked alongside health and social care professionals to maintain continuity of care, including moving between services. Feedback from professionals was positive telling us there was good communication and timely referrals were made as people’s needs changed.”

“People and their representatives were supported to share feedback and ideas, or raise complaints about their care, treatment and support.”

“Systems were in place to monitor the quality of the service and drive improvements. Leaders were visible, knowledgeable, and supportive. They helped staff develop through continual learning, helping them develop in their roles.”
