Behavioural support, Learning disability, Mental health, Physical disability
At Lynwood House we support 14 individuals with a learning disability and physical disabilities. We specialize in supporting people with high healthcare needs, including individuals who are PEG fed and have degenerative conditions.
Lynwood House consists of two buildings; a large Victorian house where we support ten individuals and Lynwood Annexe, a four bedroom detached house situated beside the main building. Both have an enclosed, secure and safe rear garden, which is fully wheelchair accessible.
The support we offer reflects the needs of each person who lives at Lynwood House. We encourage everyone to achieve their maximum potential, in terms of social and daily living skills, and to live life to the full. Staff are friendly and welcoming and have received specialist training to meet individuals’ needs.
Lynwood House has a registered nurse within the staff team to support individuals’ everyday health needs. In addition to this we have an excellent relationship with the local health team who support people with physical disabilities to live at Lynwood House – these include a speech and language therapist, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, an epilepsy nurse and a community nurse, who are readily available.
We are involved with several groups in the local area and the college offers a range of courses, including everyday numbers and words, cooking, IT, boost your confidence and creative literacy. We also have an active in-house activity programme which includes music therapy, interactive story telling, art and crafts and music and movement.
Lynwood House is situated within a rural community in Midsomer Norton, which has shops and healthcare facilities. We are close to Bath, Bristol, a variety of tourist attractions and the coast. People we support enjoy visiting local swimming and therapy pools, the gym, the theatre, the cinema and shopping centres, as well as taking part in trampolining sessions, fully accessible horse riding and trike riding.
Lynwood House is spacious and has two lounges, a dining room and a specialised sensory room, as well as an enclosed secure and safe rear garden that is fully wheelchair accessible.
Each bedroom has en-suite facilities. The service is wheelchair accessible and where appropriate bedrooms and bathrooms can be fully converted to accommodate physical needs, with equipment such as over head tracking, wet rooms, specialised shower trays and changing facilities.
At Lynwood House Annexe we provide care and support for four people with a learning disability and physical disabilities. This part of the service specialises in providing a stepping stone to supported living, offering an opportunity for people to learn or consolidate life skills in an environment which enables them to gain greater independence.
The annexe is a modern building with en-suite bathrooms, spacious bedrooms, good sized communal areas, a sensory room, a computer area and an enclosed rear garden.
The aim is to provide everyone with the support they require, through positive risk management, to enable them to develop the necessary skills to take the next step to living independently, within a safe environment.
