Autistic spectrum disorders, Behavioural support, Learning disability, Physical disability
At 1 Church Road we support 13 individuals with learning disabilities, autism and physical disabilities. People living at the service may also have behavioural support needs.
We aim to support each individual to achieve something which is meaningful and important to them. We work with each individual to create a person centred activity programme. This could include starting college or completing other courses.
Staff are pro-active, sourcing new activities and removing any obstacles to make activities accessible for all. Their attitude is that nothing is impossible. An example of this is one gentleman who keeps two classic cars at the service which staff support him to maintain and take to shows and exhibitions. Not only is this a source of enjoyment, it has also helped him to build positive relationships and trust with staff. This led to him attending his annual review and talking about how he felt about the service for the first time which was a huge achievement.
We promote choice and independence in everything we do, and focus on each individual’s wishes, needs and aspirations. We hold regular service user meetings to make sure everyone has a voice.
The service has a long standing and stable staff team. Staff are highly trained and receive training specific to the needs of the people living at the service, including epilepsy training. Two staff are Link Workers for Intensive Interaction.
The service has a good relationship with other people who live in the village and we regularly attend local coffee mornings. 1 Church Road is situated in a small village on the outskirts of Bridgwater and has excellent links to local amenities and transport. The service has two vehicles, one of which is wheelchair accessible.
All of the bedrooms have en-suite facilities and there is plenty of shared space, including an area which is being developed for relaxation with sensory equipment. There is also a large garden. The service is wheelchair accessible, with wide corridors and doorways and tracking in downstairs bedrooms, and further adaptations can be made to meet individual needs.
