At Bank Hall Farm we provide specialist understanding and support for people with Autism Spectrum Condition and Aspergers Syndrome.

We recognise the importance of choice, but also how hard this can be for someone with Autism Spectrum Condition and so we seek to support people to understand what it is to make a choice and the consequences that follow.  This is not about trying to restrict choice but it is about being Autism friendly.

What it is like to live at Bank Hall Farm

Everybody is encouraged to raise issues and to discuss ideas at the monthly ‘Your Voice’ meeting.  At these meetings, individual’s can influence how Bank Hall Farm operates and on a day to day basis. Topics of discussion can include activity planning, menus and refurbishment plans.  Individuals who do not wish to take part in these meeting are represented in different ways, to ensure that everybody’s voice is heard.

Everybody living at Bank Hall Farm is assigned a ‘key worker’, who looks after each individuals care plans. Key workers encourage and support individuals to attain their personal goals, which could include; cleaning, volunteering and paid employment.

The team of highly skilled professionals working at Bank Hall Farm offer over 15 years of specialist experience working with Autism Spectrum Condition.  The team receive regular training in specific areas including; Impairment of Social Communication, Social Imagination and Social Relationships.

We work closely with local multidisciplinary teams, Speech and Language Therapists, Sensory Therapists, Nutritionalists and Mental Health teams, including psychology support.   

Bank Hall Farm facilities

Bank Hall Farm has 7 en-suite bedrooms and sits in 1.7 acres of land.  There is a variety on site activities which residents can participate and enjoy including; sensory allotment, orchard, 3 stables and independent kitchen skills area.

We are located in a residential area of Winsford, Cheshire with easy access to local shops and amenities including a library, cinema, leisure centre and swimming pool which has various facilities.  The centre of Winsford town centre is approximately 1 mile away.  Bank Hall Farm has its own on site mini bus to transport individuals in the community, as well as being on a main bus route with easy access to Winsford train station.

Supporting greater independence

Being Autistic means that Social relationships and how they work can be a bit of a mystery.  We work hard to understand this and to gain a real understanding of the individuals we support and the value people can gain from friendships.  This is turn supports independence but also that co-dependance that we each have living our lives within the community.

The people we support regularly participate in activities that promote independence, such as visits to the supermarket, baking, growing fruit and vegetables, cleaning, washing, ironing and daily duties.

Individuals also volunteer with the Forestry Commission at Delamere Forest, using public transport links and the train to travel.  Individuals participate in activities around the forest helping to keep it clean and tidy, as well as helping staff in the visitor centre shop, labelling products, providing customer service and working at the cashier desk.

Our residents hard work has been recognised by the Mayor and Mayoress of Cheshire East Council, who awarded individuals with nationally recognised awards for work with the Forestry Commission.

This success story is an example of how Bank Hall Farm can support individuals to reach positive outcomes for themselves.  Skills learnt during these volunteering activities will support individuals in the future to gain paid employment and to live independently.
