Specialises in: Acquired brain injury, Behavioural support, Mental health

Marner House is a specialised service for 16 people with a brain injury, designed with an emphasis on continued rehabilitation. We believe that people can still develop skills, confidence and participation even several years after injury. Designed as a rehabilitation service for individuals who may require support following a move from hospital into the community but need a period of intense structure and support to improve their confidence and independence skills.

Where is Marner House?

Marner House is in a residential area of Nuneaton, half a mile from the town centre, shops, sports centre and railway station and near to regular local bus routes. It is close to all the usual amenities and services you’d expect in a large thriving town.

Does the service offer short or long term rehabilitation and care?

Our rehabilitation programmes are designed around the specific needs of each individual. For some people the stay will be relatively short, lasting only a few months; others can be assured that whilst continued progress is important, longer stays are possible.

What style of accommodation is on offer?

Marner House offers eight bedrooms all with en suite shower room and W.C. There are two spacious and well-furnished communal living areas, an additional training kitchen and private mature garden looking over the local canal.

The service also benefits from the addition of two self-contained “step down” apartments. These apartments offer the opportunity for individuals to have greater independence, with the reassurance of the 24 hour support in the adjacent service. These apartments also offer flexibility for those with moderate to high support needs who wish to live alone or find it difficult to live within a group setting.

The service also provides separate support within six independent living apartments situated adjacent to Marner House.

How much support can I expect?

In order to provide holistic and focused support staffing levels are set at a minimum ratio of one member of staff to every two people during daytime hours, with wake night support shared across the service. We are able to support individuals with more intensive support needs, by providing additional support hours or investigating assisted technology options in line with their individual assessed needs.

In addition to these staffing levels we have a full time qualified and experienced Manager with access to further professional and managerial expertise off site.

Voyage Care has an excellent track record of investing in the induction, training, education and development of staff, attaining the Investors in People Award in 2009.

When I’m ready to move on will Voyage Care be able to help me?

Of course, our service model is under-pinned by a desire to support people to return successfully to a more independent life. We will work with individuals and their chosen network of family and friends to help them achieve their goal. We can offer practical assistance with finding new independent accommodation, and where required can continue to provide support at home.

Professional therapy

At Voyage Care we are committed to only using very experienced neuro-rehabilitation specialists to support the needs of people with acquired brain injury and neurological rehabilitation needs. We can provide neuro-occupational therapy.

We use Goal Attainment Scaling to support each person to focus on daily functional goals and we monitor broader attainments on general outcome measures such as St Andrew’s Swansea Neuro-behavioural Outcome Scale (SASNOS).
