Weir End House and Woodpecker Lodge support people with learning disabilities, mental health illnesses, Autism and challenging behaviour. We aim to provide a safe and homely environment, where all individuals can make their own choices about the support they receive. We do everything we can to improve the health and wellbeing of the individuals we support and as a team we are focused on building positive outcomes for everyone.
Overview of Service
Weir End House and Woodpecker Lodge support people with learning disabilities, mental health illnesses, Autism and challenging behaviour. At Weir End House we support 13 people: 10 people are supported in the main house and 3 people are supported in the adjoining flats. Woodpecker Lodge is situated within the grounds and provides support for 7 individuals who are all preparing to live in their own homes independently.
The staff team is committed to enabling people to be involved in the running of their home and to pursue any goals they may have.
We work very closely with our local community and the people who live here are involved in various groups and are members of different committees. Everyone is encouraged and supported to access the community and we have a support network in place to maintain this.
Both Weir End House and Woodpecker Lodge promote Craegmoor's communication strategy, "Your Voice", which encourages individuals, based on their preferred method of communication, to voice their views about the support they receive. Monthly meetings are held where individuals are able to represent the views and voices of others living at the service. This is extended to a voice at area, divisional and national level.
What It's Like to Live Here
All individuals are involved in designing their own Person Centred Plan, with staff support. The plans are tailored to suit individual needs and provide the correct level of support required. They also enable all individuals to make their own choices about the support they receive. We encourage and support everyone at Weir End House and Woodpecker Lodge to recognise and identify their goals and aspirations.
There are a wide range of activities to get involved in at Weir End House and Woodpecker Lodge and everyone living here chooses what they would like to do on a daily basis. Individuals also make the most of the service's location and go for scenic walks by the riverside.
Surroundings
Weir End House and Woodpecker Lodge are located in Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire; a small market town, which enables individuals to access the small community safely and independently. The town has a snooker club; a library, a heritage centre and many restaurants and pubs. There are local supermarkets, weekly markets and monthly farmers markets. There are good bus links to the surrounding areas, such as the Forest of Dean.
Service Facilities
Weir End House is a Georgian manor house, with an extension of 3 flats. The property is set in lovely, large grounds, with a walled vegetable garden, greenhouses and a woodland area, which is home to a donkey and chickens.
