48 Hafod Road is a specialist service offering support to eight individuals with autistic spectrum disorders who may show behaviours that challenge.
The service is a sensitively renovated property situated in a quiet residential area half a mile from Hereford city centre. Shops and other community facilities are located within walking distance and the city offers many opportunities for leisure activities, including a bowling centre, a concert hall, a cinema and sports facilities, such as a riding school and a gymnastics club. Further afield, people can also access a Birds of Prey Centre.
We believe that communication is a key factor in the support we provide, and that the inability to communicate preferences and wishes is the main cause of behaviours that challenge. We use a wide range of communication aids and systems. We take a holistic approach to dealing with challenges, using Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention and TEACCH.
The service has six spacious bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom which can be fitted with a shower or bath depending on individual preference. There are also two self-contained flats, each of which has a living room, a bedroom, a bathroom and a kitchen. These flats allow for a more independent style of living.
The shared areas in the service include a large lounge, a kitchen/dining room and a multi-sensory room. There are extensive tiered gardens to the rear of the building with decking and a large, level patio area and sweeping views over the city.
