Brendoncare Park Road has been specifically designed to enable older people to live independent, happy and fulfilling lives. Located in a quiet rural area of Winchester, it was founded during the 1950s to provide residential care for those who could no longer live independently at home, and has since been extended to provide two purpose-built nursing wings. It now provides total care for 48 residents. Combining warmth and community spirit with professional expertise, the home enables residents to be cared for, secure in the knowledge that their individuality will be respected however frail they may become. Brendoncare Park Road provides a home where older people can be helped to live as normally as possible and where the emphasis is on quality and enjoyment of life. The staff offer highly skilled nursing care and are proud to do so in an atmosphere where residents can feel they are still in charge of their own lives.
In the original Brendon House, there are 16 single rooms, most with en-suite facilities or private bathroom, a Dining Room and Sitting Room overlooking the enclosed garden. A further 32 ground-floor rooms are located in the nursing wings, some with en-suite facilities and many with a door leading to the garden. These rooms enjoy access to the McAndrew Room, a large communal area with views of the garden which is used as a Sitting Room, Dining Room and as a focal point for many of the social activities within the home. Most of the bedrooms have a view of the attractive mature gardens. Residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture and cherished personal possessions and to arrange their room as they choose so that it really feels like home. The entrance hall and welcoming sitting rooms are attractively furnished and provide a comfortable atmosphere where people can spend time with each other. Brendoncare Park Road has close links with the local community and there is an active Friends network who are invaluable, organising coffee mornings and social events, running the library service and shopping trolley. Residents are encouraged to continue with previous leisure interests. Social activities include ‘keep fit’, arts and crafts, baking, reminiscence, quizzes, games and outings, and we have an Activities Organiser who is a qualified Occupational Therapist. Meals are seen as an important part of the day and the chef provides a wide variety of home-cooked meals which are appetising and well presented, and always meet high nutritional standards. Special diets and personal preferences can be catered for. Residents can be served in their rooms but many enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the spacious dining room which overlooks the enclosed garden and where their family and friends can join them. We are always pleased to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and other special events. Family parties can also be arranged. The philosophy of the home is that residents should be able to make decisions for themselves and choose how to spend their time. There are plenty of opportunities to be sociable but for those who prefer more peace and solitude, their privacy is respected. Led by an experienced and well-qualified Home Manager, the staff at Brendoncare Park Road work as a close team and are committed to the Brendoncare philosophy. They make every effort to provide care which promotes privacy and dignity, and to understand each resident’s needs and preferences. Registered Nurses are always on duty supported by well-trained Care Assistants, and all the staff receive continuous education and development. Local GPs support the home and visit regularly so that residents can be registered with the doctor of their choice. A chiropodist and physiotherapist attend the home on a regular basis and other services such as hairdressing can always be arranged.
