Overview of service

The Shores is a specialised service for people with learning disabilities and complex needs. Originally registered for three places, The Shores received a substantial extension to increase the number of places to seven before welcoming its first resident in 2008. The service is decorated and furnished to a very high standard, and the ethos is one of a family home. Each service user has their own bedroom and all the facilities of a spacious family house. We like to promote independence and we recognise that privacy is important to all our residents. Short respite stays can often be accommodated at this home.

What it's like to live here

Service users who currently live at the Shores like to help with meal planning, cooking, cleaning, activity planning, socialising and gardening on a regular basis. Some of the people we support go on work placements and particularly enjoy this independence.

Surroundings

Situated in Parkstone, within walking distance of Ashley Road and Tower Park, The Shores is ideally situated to provide a range of activities for the people we support. The Shores is in close proximity to The Moorings and The Dunes, other Craegmoor services in Dorest, which enables residents to join together for shared activities.

Service facilities

We encourage the people we support to personalise their rooms to their own taste as well as to take an active role in the running of the home and to put forward their own ideas at the service user meetings – Your Voice. The Shores has a large lounge which opens into the garden, separate dining room, kitchen and a computer room. A utility room provides laundry facilities.
