Barley Close provides high quality care and support to ten individuals with learning disabilities and physical disabilities. We are experienced in supporting people with complex epilepsy needs.

Barley Close is a detached house with beautiful views on three sides, set in the midst of a strong community. It is only two miles from the sea and three miles from Axminster, which has a range of facilities.

We aim to support each person to have a good quality of life, discover new pathways and have life enhancing experiences. We hold regular meetings where everyone can give their views and enable each person to communicate in the way they prefer.

Everyone is encouraged and supported to make the most of the facilities available to them in the community, including social clubs, churches and schools. We provide varied activities, both within and outside of the service, which cater to individual’s needs.

Staff support each person to become actively involved in the daily running of Barley Close, developing daily living skills and encouraging independence, progression and development. Barley Close has a family atmosphere. Individual care packages are person centred and carefully designed to reflect not only the person's needs, but also their choices and aspirations.

The service has a training kitchen with low level worktops where everyone can help prepare meals, with staff support. We offer a varied programme of in house activities, including music, art innovation, massage and reflexology.

All areas of Barley Close are specially designed to respond to the varied needs of the people who live there, while maintaining a warm environment. There is a sensory room and a conservatory.

Barley Close has rustic, landscaped gardens with a large patio area and a herb garden.

Each of the ten bedrooms has en-suite facilities. The five ground floor bedrooms are all wheelchair accessible and have ceiling tracking. Further adaptations can be made to meet individuals’ needs. The upstairs bedrooms have spectacular views of the countryside.
