Specialises in: Acquired brain injury

At Markham House we provide high quality support to enable 13 individuals with an acquired brain injury to develop their cognitive and practical skills and build independence.

An important part of the support we give is assisting people to make the most of facilities available to them locally. Markham House is close to Chesterfield where there are opportunities for college courses and leisure activities.

We have a proven track record in helping people to move forward and achieve the lifestyle they want. We have 11 bedrooms with en-suite facilities, three of which also have height adjustable kitchen facilities. These offer greater independence and give people experience of being responsible for their property, before they move into the community.

There are also bungalows in the grounds of the service. These are open plan and wheelchair accessible. The aim is for individuals who require minimum support to be able to live independently within a safe environment, with support available as needed. Each bungalow has a lounge, a kitchen, a bedroom and an adapted bathroom.

Most people come to us following an intensive period of rehabilitation. Our staff spend time with each person at their previous placement, to make transition as smooth as possible.

In addition to our team of highly trained staff, we employ therapists who devise, implement and regularly review therapy programmes for each person. These specialists also support the staff team to use the strategies they have devised.

There are a number of shared areas to allow people to choose whether to spend time alone, socialising with others or taking part in therapy sessions.

There is also a large enclosed garden with a patio and a water feature. Everyone can help maintain the garden as part of their daily living skills development.
