Trevarna is a purpose built home in the middle of up and coming St Austell. It is situated on a pleasant road, with a library, swimming pool, doctor’s surgery, park and train station within walking distance. The home has a light and airy feel with staff that are warm and caring. Trevarna has 52 bedrooms, eight of which are en-suite. There are 5 suites, all with their own dining rooms, kitchenettes and sitting areas. Each suite has on average 10 bedrooms so there is always plenty of room for visitors to come and have a chat or stay for a meal. Residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture and precious items from home to make each room feel individual. Each lounge has recently been redecorated in calm and light tones. New furniture has been purchased and carpet laid. Each lounge has been decorated in a manner that ensures that people with sensory difficulties remain as independent as possible. Trevarna benefits from large grounds and internal gardens. The internal gardens are private and secure and all residents are welcome to make use of them. We have a greenhouse in one garden and two ponds in another – with some very impressive koi carp. We are currently in the process of developing one of the gardens in collaboration with our residents to ensure that theses space are valued by the people that choose to live with us.

Mealtimes are an important part of the day. Care and attention is given to ensure that residents have meals that they enjoy and they are actively encouraged to participate in developing new menus. For breakfast, people can choose to have cereal, toast or a full English –or maybe all three! Our residents are free to have their breakfast in the dining room or in their own rooms. At lunchtime there is usually a choice of at least two different cooked meals, sandwiches or salads. Suppertime is generally a lighter meal of sandwiches, soup or cheese on toast. We cater for people with all sorts of dietary needs, from vegetarians to diabetic diets or food allergies. Our Chef enjoys trying new recipes and loves to make sure that people enjoy their meals. We use local produce where possible and have built great relationships with our local shops. Activities and social contacts are very important. Trevarna has a Day Club that our residents are free to attend should they wish. We have televisions and DVD players in each lounge area. Our care staff offer activities to our residents – such as bingo or craft work. We have a drama therapist that attends the home twice a week. She encourages people to join her groups and usually can be heard singing lots of golden oldies! We have a hair dresser and an aromatherapist/hand massage lady that both come to the home at least once a week. We also have singers, entertainers and pantomimes periodically throughout the year. Trevarna has a large staff team. There are cooks, domestics, laundry staff, care staff and nurses. All our staff have had training in caring for those people who have memory problems and dementia. We really enjoy working with our residents to ensure that the care they receive is of the best standard. Each resident has a care plan that is individual to them. Residents and their relatives are encouraged to participate in the review of care plans. This ensures that every aspect of the person’s care needs are met. Trevarna has worked hard at developing good relationships with GPs, district nurses, social workers and CPNs who work in the St Austell area. We have frequent visits from the district nursing team and the community matron from a local GP surgery. We have dentists, opticians and chiropodists that visit the home on a regular basis to see our residents. Trevarna is currently applying for a change in registration to that of a nursing home. Therefore working with us we have a Lead Nurse, a lady named Terri Young who prior to this appointment worked as a district nurse. She will be leading a team of nurses here at Trevarna in the delivery of enhanced care. This change in registration will benefit all our residents as we will truly be able to offer a home for a life. We are very excited about this change in registration.
