At Headlands you will find a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. From Headlands there are panoramic sea views of Carbis Bay beach and the quaint fishing village of St Ives. Doctor’s surgeries, a library, churches and shops are all in close proximity. We have thirty two rooms, three of the rooms are large and could accommodate couples; eight of the rooms are en suite. Our residents' bedrooms are situated on the ground floor and first floor of the building which is accessed by a lift. All residents are encouraged to bring in some of their own personal belongings to make it feel more like home. Most clients have their own telephone in their room. We have a resident cat called Pandora, who has been with us for quite a few years. Pandora is thoroughly spoilt by the residents and staff. Most residents find having animals around very comforting and we try whenever possible to accommodate residents' pets. There are three lounge dining areas, two of them look out onto the garden and have spectacular sea views. The other lounge dining room is bright and sunny and is situated at the front of the home; perfect for watching regular comings and goings and even watching the surfers getting changed by their cars! Mealtimes are a very important part of the day for our residents. All dining areas have a relaxed atmosphere. We offer a range of delicious home made food with several different choices throughout the day. Wine is served with the lunch time meal. Some residents prefer their meals served in their rooms which we are happy to accommodate. The chef caters for all tastes and special dietary requirements. Families are welcome to stay for meals with their relatives for a small charge. We have several kitchen areas where residents and relatives can make their own refreshments.
Residents are encouraged to pursue a range of recreational activities from craft to drama classes, we hold quiz afternoons which have been a great success. Entertainers visit the home on a regular basis and we also have a minibus to take residents on trips. Last year Newquay Zoo came to the home and residents were able to handle snails and snakes - eek! General Practitioners, dentists, opticians and podiatrists attend the home on a regular basis. We have a hairdressing salon, the hairdresser visits once a week. Daily papers and magazines are delivered daily if requested. We also have a shop that sells sweets and toiletries. We are very proud of the level of training at Headlands. Over 80% of staff have NVQ 2 and 3 as well as stage I and II Dementia Training. The training for staff is constantly being updated. In 2005 Cornwall Care won a national training award. The staff at Headlands pride themselves in the work that they do, and the care that they deliver.
