Strathmore House supports people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. We aim to provide a safe and homely environment, where all individuals can make their own choices about the support they receive. We do everything we can to improve the health and wellbeing of the individuals we support and as a team we are focused on building positive outcomes for everyone.
Overview of Service
Strathmore House supports people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour and offers a warm and homely environment for people to extend and enhance the quality of their day to day living.
The support at Strathmore House is delivered by a dedicated and professional staff team, who are committed to providing quality support that is focused on the needs of each individual. A key worker is assigned to each person and the level of support is entirely dependent on individuals' needs. People and their families and friends are encouraged to actively participate in the planning of support, which is carefully monitored. We work closely with local services such as the community learning disability team; community nurses, psychologists, speech therapists, local health centres and other health care services.
Strathmore House promotes Craegmoor's communication strategy, "Your Voice", which encourages individuals, based on their preferred method of communication, to voice their views about the support they receive. Monthly meetings are held where individuals are able to represent the views and voices of others living at the service. This is extended to a voice at area, divisional and national level..
What it's Like to Live Here
There is a wide range of activities to get involved in at the service, which everyone helps to choose and organise. Some people enjoy swimming, bowling, going to the cinema, socialising in pubs and shopping. Some people living at Strathmore House are involved in athletics, basketball and aerobics and have taken part in the Special Olympics. Some individuals take part in a theatre group.
The people that we support are encouraged through their Person Centred Plans to achieve their goals and aspirations. For some people this means attending college to access various courses, including cooking, art and daily living skills. For others it means work placements and other day opportunities in line with their goals.
Within the house we continually and consistently promote the development of social skills, independent living and personal responsibility. This includes daily skills such as shopping, cooking, doing laundry and cleaning, and tasks are dependent upon an individual's ability. The people who live here are very proud of their home as they have so much involvement in creating it.
