Based in Leicester, Halifax Drive provides support for adults from the age of 18 with learning disabilities and associated behavioural and mental health problems.

Halifax Drive offers long term care and support as well as short break opportunities with everything we do to improve the health and wellbeing of the people we support by building positive outcomes for everyone.

What it's like to live here

There are a wide range of activities to get involved with at Halifax Drive, both within the service and in the local community. Everybody living here helps to choose and plan the activities they would like to get involved in and additional learning such as attending college is actively encouraged by the staff team and support provided, if this is a request from the individual. The programme is augmented with confidence building activities, which include arts and crafts, outdoor pursuits, college programmes and social visits.

Annual holidays are also carried out and these can either be in a group or on a smaller basis. Holidays play an active part in our monthly 'Your Voice' meetings and everyone is encouraged to discuss where they would like to go on their holiday as well as who they would like to go with.

Service facilities

The service has four living rooms, three dining rooms and a games room. The garden is quite spacious and has a patio area. Some people are involved with the up-keep of the garden and help with potting plants and growing vegetables in our greenhouse. Everyone is encouraged to personalise their bedrooms to their own taste and are encouraged to personalise with their own furniture if they wish to.

Surroundings

Halifax Drive is situated in Leicester - the town centre is a 5 minute drive away or 15 minutes on the local bus. The M1 motorway is a short drive away from the service and the nearest train station can be found in the town centre.

There are many places of interest near Halifax Drive, we have a working men’s club just opposite the home that holds a disco every week and karaoke nights. The National Space Centre is a 5 minute drive away, and Bradgate Country Park and Abbey Park are only a 10 minute drive away. Leicester city centre has many attractions, such as shops and the Meridian Leisure Park which has a cinema, bowling and Laser Quest. Leicester is known for its museums, including Belgrave Hall, New Walk Museum, Abbey Pumping Station and the Guildhall, all of which are within a 5 mile radius from Halifax Drive.
