Beech House is a lovely service which provides individual support to six people with autism and challenging behaviour. The staff at Beech House are caring and supportive and work incredibly hard to ensure that the needs of the people we support are met, as well as ensuring that they live as independently as possible and have FUN! We understand that each individual has their own needs and work flexibly to make sure these are met. Everyone is supported to take part in meaningful activities which suit individual needs and wishes.

Our Service

We use a range of communication techniques with support from a speech and language therapist. Everyone has the opportunity to attend house meetings and to be involved in the running of the service, whether this is through cooking, gardening or cleaning.

People are supported to experience opportunities for personal development, both within the service and in the wider community. This may include making use of facilities such as the local swimming pool, as well as social clubs, or going on holiday. We have taken part in fundraising for a local charity. Reading and Bracknell College, which offers a range of courses, is also within easy reach.

Our Environment

Beech House is a detached home with a large garden with plenty of seating. There is also a football net which people enjoy using and a large driveway at the front.

The kitchen is a large comfortable space and some of the people living here enjoy having their meals at the breakfast counter. We have a large lounge which is used for watching TV, relaxing and music sessions, as well as a conservatory which is a lovely open area for people to use when they are doing one to one activities with staff, as well as a space to have meals.

There are six bedrooms, three upstairs and three downstairs, and there is a bathroom on each floor.

Our Staff

Staff are supported to undertake all statutory training as well as service specific training to meet the needs of the people we support. This includes autism, diabetes, epilepsy and how to support people who have challenging behaviours.

Our Location

The service is situated in the centre of Woodley next to a shopping area with lots of facilities and public transport links close by. Reading town centre is a short drive away.
