The Cedars supports people with learning disabilities and mental illnesses, who are between the ages of 18 and 65. We aim to provide a safe and homely environment, where everyone can make their own choices about the support they receive. We do everything we can to improve the health and wellbeing of the individuals we support and as a team we are focused on building positive outcomes for everyone.

Overview of Service

The Cedars supports people with learning disabilities and mental illnesses, who are between the ages of 18 and 65. We have a dedicated staff team who provide first class 24 hour support for everyone; enabling individuals to make their own choices and set about achieving their goals.

The Cedars promotes Craegmoor's communication strategy, "Your Voice", which encourages individuals, based on their preferred method of communication, to voice their views about the support they receive. Monthly meetings are held where individuals are able to represent the views and voices of others living at the service. This is extended to area, divisional and national level.

We encourage and support everyone at The Cedars to recognise and identify their goals and ambitions and how they would like to go about meeting them.

What it's Like to Live Here

The people that we support are encouraged through their Person Centred Plans to achieve their goals and aspirations. For some people this means attending college to access various courses, including cooking, art and daily living skills. For others it means work placements and other day opportunities in line with their goals.

Within the service we continually and consistently promote the development of social skills, independent living and personal responsibility. These include daily skills such as shopping, cooking, doing laundry and cleaning and tasks are dependent upon each individual's ability. The people who live here are very proud of their home as they have so much involvement in creating it.

Our aim is to offer choice and flexibility based on individual preference.

Surroundings

The Cedars is situated within a residential area of Gloucester, in the heart of the Cotswolds. There are excellent local amenities and the city centre is just a few minutes' walk away. Local busses pass nearby every 10 minutes and the train station is also located nearby.

The historic Gloucester Docks are close by and there are direct access links to Cheltenham, Forrest of Dean, Cirencester and Stroud.

Service Facilities

There are 2 substantial airy lounge areas, a dining room, a utility room and a tranquil secluded garden, which offers a relaxing atmosphere and a quiet retreat. A large wooden lodge is situated in the garden which is used for arts and crafts, computer activities, watching films and relaxing. Our aromatherapist also uses the lodge when making visits.

Everyone is encouraged and supported to use our 2 kitchens to prepare and cook meals for themselves and others. People are encouraged to personalise their bedrooms, to make the service as homely as possible.
